About Clean Sweep

The Southeast Regional Chamber Council (SRCC), a committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, Inc., is planning again for the annual Operation Clean Sweep in the Town of Monroe, New York. April 19th, 2008 is the date for this year's event. This will be the sixth year the Orange County Chamber's SRCC committee will be asking for volunteers to help with this clean up event.

The activity proposed would involve volunteers from community organizations, businesses and individuals. The proposed area to be cleaned would be from Museum Village on route 17M to the Village of Harriman and would include designated town, village roads and locations.

SRCC Committee members will coordinate, recruit, and promote the event locally. Committee members will solicit support from various organizations within the Town of Monroe for donations of all the necessary supplies and tools (trash bags, rakes, brooms, etc.) to complete the clean up.

The Town of Monroe, Village of Monroe and Village of Harriman will be requested by the SRCC, acting on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, Inc. to participate in the planning and promotion of operation Clean Sweep. Municipalities will be asked to provide the necessary information & permits needed to carry out the program in accordance with local laws.

The Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, Inc. will provide staff support, promotion of the event in the Viewpoint and on the website, and insurance coverage for the event. Staff support will consist of

  • Monitoring the activities of the committee to assure compliance with the Chamber mission and goals.
  • Assure the necessary safety precautions are taken and that requirements of the municipalities are met.
  • Maintaining a database of volunteers.
  • Mailing notices of meetings.
  • Attendance at meetings and the event.
